Saturday gives us France vs England for third place in Miami at 5:00 PM ET, and it’s also the last sensible window to get a price on Sunday’s final before the money pours in. Below are the bets I actually like this weekend — with the reasoning, the decimal prices, and stake sizing in Canadian dollars. As always, these are entertainment-sized plays, not a mortgage plan.

Best bet 1 — Mbappé anytime scorer (bronze final)
Pick: Kylian Mbappé to score anytime. Confidence: medium-high.
This is the bet I’m most comfortable with all weekend. Mbappé is expected to start the bronze final, he’s level with Messi on eight goals in the Golden Boot race, and he sits on 20 career World Cup goals — one behind Messi’s all-time record of 21. He plays a full day before Messi, so the incentive to score is about as strong as motivation gets in a third-place game. France’s attack stays dangerous even in rotation, and England are the side whose commitment Tuchel openly questioned. A C$25 stake here is my headline play of the day.
Best bet 2 — Over 2.5 goals (bronze final)
Pick: Over 2.5 goals. Confidence: medium.
Third-place play-offs are loose by nature — experimental line-ups, no final-level defensive intensity, and players chasing individual milestones. Both managers rotate heavily on the 72-hour turnaround, so neither defends with a final’s intensity. With Mbappé and Kane both starting and chasing personal goals, and France priced odds-on at 1.83 to win, the goals should be there. A C$15 play.
Best bet 3 — Argentina to lift the Cup (final, get set early)
Pick: Argentina outright at 2.34. Confidence: medium — this is a value play, not a banker.
The final market has Spain at 1.72 (about 58%) and Argentina at 2.34 (about 43%). I think the champions are underpriced. Argentina are the only team to win all seven matches, they carry the tournament’s best attack (19 goals), and in Messi they have the single most decisive player left standing — plus real extra-time and penalty pedigree from two knockout wins that went the distance. Spain’s record-breaking defence is real, but it hasn’t yet faced an attack like this. Getting 2.34 on the reigning champions in a coin-flip final is value. A C$20 stake; I’d take the price now before it potentially shortens.
A small weekend builder (optional fun)
If you want one ticket to carry both days, a modest same-slip idea: Mbappé to score (today) + the final to produce a goal for Argentina (tomorrow). It’s a longshot-flavoured bit of fun, not a value play — keep it to a couple of dollars. The straight singles above are where the actual edge is.
What I’m leaving alone
- Bronze match result at 1.83. France should win, but that’s a short price on a genuine coin-flip of a game. I’d rather be on Mbappé and the goals line.
- Golden Glove and Golden Ball. Simón (1.13) and Messi (1.13) are so short there’s no value left — the market has these all but settled.
- Anything on a DraftKings “outright” board. Their tournament prices are stale openers that still list eliminated teams; ignore them.
Staking and discipline
Everything above adds up to roughly C$60 in singles plus loose change on the builder — a sensible weekend for most bettors. Set that number before kick-off and stop there whether it wins or loses.
